Extracurricular Programs

Theater

Students at the Academy love their theater program. It lets them sing, dance, act, construct sets, design programs, and band together to get the show on its feet. In addition to the required class projects in theater in the earlier years, Middle School and Upper School students may elect to participate in the Grade 7 and 8 spring musical, the Upper School fall play, and the Upper School spring musical. Recent productions include Macbeth, The Music Man, The Addams Family, She Kills Monsters and Rent. In all theatrical productions, no student is turned away. Students may participate onstage or backstage, and almost half of the student body is somehow involved in the Upper School Musical.

Music

The halls of Staten Island Academy are never silent. Students are actively engaged in learning about, reading, listening to, and creating music. They do it within the curriculum and during the school day in choral and instrumental ensembles from Grades 2-12. Upper School students, in addition to a wide variety of elective courses in music, may participate in one of four music ensembles. Students may also take private music and instrumental lessons through the after-school Adventures Program (Pre-K through Grade 8) or through the Department of the Arts team and affiliated music tutors (Grades 9-12).
