Music Ensembles

Academy students (primarily in the Upper School) may participate in the following music ensembles.

Concert Choir

This four-part vocal ensemble meets three times a cycle during the school day. All students who wish to participate may elect to take Concert Choir for half an art credit each year. Students perform in two major concerts, as well as various other events during the year. Works performed range from classical to popular.

Something Musical

This four-part men’s ensemble meets once a week in the evenings and performs in our annual Holiday and Spring concerts, as well as at various school functions. Something Musical has even performed the Star Spangled Banner at Shea Stadium for the NY Mets. This ensemble tends to do more popular song literature.

Sweet Harmony

This three-part women’s ensemble meets once a week in the evenings and performs in our annual Holiday and Spring concerts, as well as at various school functions. This ensemble also tends to do more popular song literature.

The SIA Orchestra

The SIA Orchestra plays as a full ensemble and is also broken up into a Wind Ensemble and a String Ensemble. The repertoire of all three ensembles is varied and selected on the basis of group ability. Classical pieces are rehearsed and performed at the Winter Concert; lighter "pop" pieces are rehearsed and performed at the Spring Concert. Shorter programs are also prepared for several other school events. These ensembles include instrumentalists from both the Middle School and the Upper School.
