Milestones

  • Mike K. ’18 became the first male and only the second SIA student-athlete (along with Bethany C. ’12) to win the prestigious Varsity Club Award, presented to the top male and female student-athletes on Staten Island.
  • Coach Brian Manske retired in 2018 after 41 years of coaching basketball and tennis. In his long tenure on the sidelines, Coach Brian Manske finished with 733 career wins!
  • In the 2017 fall season, Julia L. ’20 won her second consecutive SICHSAA Girls Tennis Singles title. This marked the sixth year in a row in which an SIA player has earned this title (Jillian A. ’16 won 4 consecutive titles from 2012-2015).
  • 19 SIA athletes have been recruited to play either Division I, II or III athletics in college over the past 4 years.
  • Sophia D. ’19 became the 2017-2018 Jaques Award winner, given to the top female high school basketball player on Staten Island. This coveted award has now gone to a member of the SIA Girls Varsity basketball team for the last 4 years (Corinn B. ’16 in 2015 and 2016; Clare M. ’17 in 2017).
  • Mike T. ’18 became a member of Staten Island’s 1,000 point club, as the senior guard poured in 28 points, surpassing 1,000 points for his career in a victory over CSI/McCown.
  • During the 2017-2018 winter season, the SIA Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity basketball teams were both ranked among the top teams in the state, with the boys climbing as high as #6 in the NY City Class B poll and the girls earning the #6 ranking in the NY State Class A poll.
  • The 2017-2018 Boys Varsity Basketball team had one of the most successful years in SIA history, as the team amassed 20 wins, capturing the ACIS title along their way to a berth in the NYSAIS tournament semifinals.
  • Sophia D. ’19 was named to the 2018 NYS Federation Class “A” All-Tournament Team.
  • Clare M. ’17 was named MVP of the 2017 Girls Basketball NYS Federation Class Tournament, and Liz A. ’18 was named to that year’s All-Tournament Team.
  • Emily L. ’19 and Clare M. ’17 both earned spots on the 2016 NYS Federation Class “A” All-Tournament Team.
  • Corinn B. ’16 was named MVP of the 2016 Girls Basketball NYS Federation Class “A” Tournament.
  • SIA’s 1st flight golfer, Trip M. '17, was named the MVP of the NYCAL league for the 2017 season. During his senior year, Trip won the NYCAL Golf Tournament Boys Individual Championship and the PSAA Golf Tournament Individual Championship.
  • Kaleigh M. ’19 won the PSAA Golf Tournament Girls Individual title in both the 2016 and 2018 seasons.
  • In the 2018 spring season, freshman Zivi M. ’21 became the first SIA student-athlete to compete and medal in an ACIS track event, earning 3rd place in the 100 meter championship.
  • The SIA Girls Varsity Lacrosse team ended the 2016 season as co-champions of the PSAA league, helping Frank Crane earn the 2016 PSAA Coach of the Year award.
  • The SIA Boys Varsity Volleyball team ended the 2016 season as PSAA regular season and postseason tournament champions, helping Darlene Crowe earn the 2016 PSAA Coach of the Year award. It was her second consecutive year winning this award.
