Milestones
- Erica M. ’24 made history by becoming the first SIA swimmer to capture a gold medal in the 2020 NYSAIS Swimming Invitational. Erica, competing as an 8th grader, defeated some of the top swimmers in the state to win the girls’ 200 Individual Medley.
- In the 2020 ISAL Swim Championships, the Tigers earned gold medals in a number of events: Erica M. ’24 in the 200 Individual Medley, the 50 Freestyle, the 100 Backstroke, and the 100 Breaststroke; Ricky K. ‘22 in the 200 Individual Medley, the 500 Freestyle, and the 100 backstroke; and Joe D. ‘23 in the 50 freestyle
- In the 2020 fall season, both Tigers’ varsity soccer teams captured their second consecutive PSAA playoff championships. The girls’ varsity also won the PSAA regular season title, going undefeated on the season.
- The boys’ victory in the title game was secured when Jeremiah G. ’21 scored the game’s only goal with 10 minutes left in the game.
- Dan S. ’21 earned the PSAA Most Valuable Player award for the PSAA Postseason Tournament, marking the second year in a row a Tiger has earned that distinction (Nick D. ’20). Elizabeth G. ’21 won the award for the girls’ tournament in 2020.
- Head Coach Anthony Pisciottano has won the last two PSAA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year awards.
- Over 15 SIA athletes have been recruited to play either Division I, II or III athletics in college over the past 4 years.
- In girls’ tennis for the 2020 fall season, Isabella M. ’21 earned the CHSAA Leadership Award; Nicole R. ’23 won the CHSAA Coaches’ Award; and Yuliya T. ‘23 won the CHSAA Sportsmanship Award.
- Alisa S. ’22 captured the 2020 CHSAA girls’ tennis Alternate Singles title.
- Allison G. ’23 was named the 2020 PSAA Girls’ JV Basketball MVP after leading the team to an undefeated regular season and the league’s postseason championship.
- The Varsity Softball team won the 2021 PSAA regular season title, the team’s first since 2014. They followed this up with a heart-stopping comeback win in the playoff championship.
- Bridget M. ’23 captured the 2021 PSAA Softball MVP award after her team captured the league’s regular season and postseason titles.
- Despite a limited athletic schedule because of COVID, 22 Tigers earned PSAA all-conference honors during the 2020-2021 school year.
- Elizabeth G. ’21 took home the honors as Staten Island Academy’s 2020-2021 Athlete of the Year after a dominant year in both soccer and lacrosse.
- Seniors Olivia L. ’21 and Dan S. ’21 were nominated for the prestigious Varsity Club award, given to the top student-athletes from among all the high schools on Staten Island.
- Elizabeth G. ’21 and Dan S. ’21 won the school’s coveted Randal and Huus Awards, respectively. These awards are given to the student-athletes who best demonstrate outstanding athletic ability, leadership, sportsmanship, and fair play.
