10 Ways to Get Involved at SIA!

Attend Alumni Events
This year’s roster of events is full of opportunities to come back to SIA and see old schoolmates, teachers, and the campus. Click here to view the list of 2009-2010 alumni events. Some take place on campus, and others take place in Manhattan.

Come See a Show
This year, the Fine and Performing Arts Department presents Sophocles' Oedipus Plays, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Once Upon a Mattress. Reserve your tickets today at the online box office by clicking here. Mr. Weissman and Ms. Wheatley would love to see you.

Come Speak at SIA
What was it like to leave SIA after all those years? What was college like? What do you do in the world now? Our students would love to know. Click here to email the Head of the Upper School, Eileen Corigliano, and arrange to come and spend some time with our students and share your experiences.

Blog About College
Are you in college now? Blog about it for the Academy community. Set-up a blog at Wordpress, and send us the URL to your blog. We’ll post the link on ROAR! -- the new Academy extranet -- so that students, parents, and teachers can read about your college experiences. Have a blog that has nothing to do with college? Link that one, too, so our students can see what our alums are writing about on the Web. Click here to submit your URL.

Become a Fan on Facebook or a Follower on Twitter
The Academy has embraced Facebook as the best way for alumni to keep in touch and stay connected to the school. Click below to visit the SIA Alumni Facebook page and here to see the Academy Twitter page. We have a bunch of RSS feeds that you can access here.

Send Your Children to SIA
How great would it be to see your son or daughter graduate on the steps of Haugen Hall? Wouldn’t it be fun to cheer them on on the field or have a parent-teacher conference with Mrs. Platis or Mr. Knies? Consider the experience you had here growing up in these halls, and get in touch with our Admissions Director, Linda Shuffman, to talk more about sending your kids here.

Recommend the Academy to Friends
This website is part of a new effort on the school’s part to get the word out there about what an incredible place SIA is. Help us out! Send friends to this website (www.statenislandacademy.org) or tell them to come for a campus tour. Better yet, bring them to the fall play or Academy Day and show them the school you know and love.

Volunteer as a Class Agent
We’re looking for a class agent and class secretary for every Academy graduating class. All you need to do is email us to let us know you’d like to volunteer. You’ll be responsible for reaching out to former classmates and re-connecting your class.

Help Renew and Revitalize the Alumni Association
Al Scotti ’94 and Mike Nagi ’95 are spearheading the process. Get in touch with Mike or Al to express your interest. They’d love to hear from you. Email our Director of Alumni Relations, who can put you in touch.

Donate to the Academy Fund
We’ve set an aggressive goal for this year, and we’d love you to be part of it. Donations can be as little as $5 or as big as $5,000 (or even more, if you want!). You can now donate online and even choose where the money goes. Your contributions go directly to student programs, faculty salaries and benefits, financial aid programs, and campus improvements. Learn more about the 2010 Academy Fund here.
