Using a common theme of light, Upper School student speakers share facts and thoughts about the seasonal holidays including Yule, Hannukah, Duwali, Kwanzaa, Eid, and Christmas. Middle School students share their experiences of "Illuminating Lives through Giving,” their winter service initiatives. Lower School students highlight their writings from their collection of “Reflections of Lights.” Musical ensembles, representing all three divisions, perform selections that reflect the themes of the gathering. Each year, the Staten Island Academy Players perform a major work of American musical theater. With a cast of approximately 40 students, we are able to provide many opportunities for non-principals to be in the spotlight as well. Our production values are high, and the musical is the most attended event of the academic year. Recent productions include Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Into the Woods, Oklahoma, On the Town, Damn Yankees, Hello, Dolly!, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Last year’s musical comedy was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Tickets can be ordered in advance at the new Staten Island Academy Online Box Office. |
