STUDENT LIFE

Service Initiativesline

Staten Island Academy is committed to service initiatives that bridge the gap between academic study and the reality of daily life.

We believe that service should be relevant and meaningful to the community, enhance academic learning, and provide the opportunity for civic pride and increased awareness of the diverse needs within our community. We achieve this by engaging students in service initiatives that are based on campus with an outreach to organizations that provide services to the community at large.

Recent service initiatives include:

  • health care;
  • food and clothing drives;
  • recycling;
  • mentoring and/or tutoring;
  • entertaining; and
  • community activism.

Our goal is to have all students understand the important of service and to actively participate in at least one major service initiative while they are a student (in each division of the school).

Senior-Year Service Internship
In the late spring of senior year, just weeks before graduation, each senior is required to complete a two-week service internship in or around the Staten Island community. Students design their internshiop in consultation with the Senior Internship Director and their Senior Advisor, and report weekly on their experience.
