LIFE: UPPER SCHOOL & SENIOR AWARDS
Top Scholar Award: Given to that student
in each grade who achieves the highest grade point average for the year.
Players Awards: Given annually for outstanding contributions
in acting and stage crew.
John W. Peel '38 Writing Award: Given annually for quality
of written expression.
Scholar-Athlete Awards: Given annually to one boy and one girl
who have earned a cumulative total of three or more varsity letters, at
least one of which must be earned during that year, and achieving year-end
Academic Honors. Of those eligible, the awards are given to that boy and
girl with the highest scholastic average for that year.
Top Athlete Award: Awarded to a boy and girl in each
grade for combined achievement and sportsmanship in physical education.
Alumni Merit Awards: Given annually by the Alumni Association
to two students in recognition of outstanding overall contributions to
the life of the Academy, and demonstration of high character and seriousness
of purpose.
Carl E. Haugen Memorial Scholarship: Given annually to
that student who combines financial need with outstanding effort and contribution
to school life.
Stephen J. and Jessica R. Botsford Grant: Given annually
to a students who is qualified, most deserving, and is in need of financial
assistance.
Dr. Reuben Greenberg and Lillian M. Greenberg Memorial Scholarship:
Granted annually to two worthy students.
The Honorable Francis H. and Dianne M. Powers Award for Excellence in the Sciences and Community Service: Given to a student who has demonstrated outstanding ability in the sciences or technology by strong academic achievement throughout Grade 11 science or technology courses, and a demonstrated and significant commitment to community service.
Lynne Robbins Steinman Award: Given annually for outstanding
dedication to the study and appreciation of music and art.
Brown University Book Award: Given to a
Grade 11 student for outstanding achievement in English.
Senior Awards
Athletic Medal: Presented to the outstanding girl athlete
in the senior class.
Mills Memorial Medal: Presented to the outstanding boy
athlete in the senior class
Academic Medals: Given to that senior who has demonstrated
the highest proficiency in a particular subject.
Dr. Albert L. Patrick Award: Presented by the Staten
Island Academy Board of Trustees for exceptional dedication and interest
in science exhibited by academic achievement and extra-curricular activities.
The Richard E. Diamond Award for Journalism: Awarded
to the senior for consistently outstanding accomplishment as a member
of the Quill staff.
The Jack J. Boies Award: Established by the Board of
Trustees in memory of Dr. Jack J. Boies, former trustee and parent of
four Academy graduates, presented to the senior whose interest, participation,
and commitment have contributed most significantly to the dramatics program
at the school.
Trustees' Medal: Awarded to that senior who has maintained
the highest scholastic average during high school.
J. Steven Bean Faculty Award: Awarded for the greatest
improvement in academic achievement during the four Upper School years.
Robert Crooks Stanley Citizenship Award: Awarded for
an "outstanding sense of responsibility, steadfast loyalty and most
cooperative spirit." Nominated by the Student Advisory Council and
selected by faculty.
The Virginia T. Kearns '36 Award for Outstanding Service:
For outstanding service to the school community.
Head's Medal: Awarded to the senior whose overall efforts,
contributions, and accomplishments have marked him or her as the outstanding
leader in the class.
Dr. Reuben Greenberg and Lillian M. Greenberg Award:
Granted annually to a worthy student in the graduating class.
Borough President's Annual Achievement Award: Recognizes
the highest quality of academic excellence, community service and school
leadership.
