Staten Island Academy to Present Winter Arts Events December 12, 2006 – Staten Island Academy’s Performing Arts Department will present two winter concerts and art shows to celebrate the holiday season. An Upper School Holiday Concert and Art Show will be held on December 21 at 7:30 PM in the Haugen Hall Auditorium. A Middle School Winter Concert and Art Show will take place on Friday, December 22 at 10 AM in the Academy’s Haugen Hall Auditorium. The two concerts will feature instrumental and choral selections. Additionally, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be read in the Haugen Hall Auditorium at 2:35 PM on December 22. The Academy has several music ensembles for student in Middle and Upper School. Offerings include a concert choir, a four-part vocal ensemble that meets twice a week during the school day and performs works ranging from classical to popular in two major concerts and other performances during the year. Something Musical is aboys’ ensemble that meets weekly and performs more popular song literature. The ensemble sings in the annual Holiday and Spring concerts and at various school functions and has performed the Star Spangled Banner at Shea Stadium for the NY Mets. Sweet Harmony is the equivalent girls’ ensemble. The orchestra meets three times a week, and students perform in two major concerts and at various other performances throughout the year. The Academy has a rich tradition of performing arts reaching back to the school’s early days. The school’s archives contain photos from the early 1900s of Academy students performing in plays and at music recitals. That long tradition of the arts continues at the Academy today. Staten Island Academy , located on a lush 12-acre campus, is a college-preparatory day school with an average class size of 17. The Academy is composed of seven buildings, including a gymnasium and fitness center, theater and state-of-the-art computer facilities. Outdoors are two swimming pools, athletic fields, a playground and tennis courts.
