NY Titans to Visit SIA November 21, 2006 - New York’s newest sports team—the New York Titans—will pay a special visit to the O.J. Buck Gymnasium at Staten Island Academy on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 2:00PM. The Titans are the National Lacrosse League's thirteenth franchise. They’ll play at Madison Square Garden beginning in January 2007. During their visit to the Academy, the team will entertain participants with a practice session, interact and play with attendees, and give away autographs and autographed jerseys. They will also raffle NY Titans logo items. The event is free of charge. According to lacrosse coach Joe Paone, “All eyes are on the Titans as they prepare for their season kickoff. We are very excited that we’ll have the opportunity to meet these fantastic lacrosse players!” The National Lacrosse League is North America's professional indoor lacrosse league, featuring the best lacrosse players in the world. The NLL has 13 teams playing in the major markets of the United States and Canada. NLL teams each play a 16-game regular season schedule (eight home and eight away) that begins in December and runs through April, followed by the Champion's Cup Playoffs. All games are played on the weekends. Professional indoor lacrosse combines the physical play of hockey with the high scoring, fast pace and play-making style of basketball. Indoor lacrosse is played inside the confines of an ice hockey rink, with glass and rink boards intact. The playing surface consists of a green dieter turf carpet that is laid down over the hockey ice. The two teams combine to score a total of 25 goals in the average NLL game. Staten Island Academy , founded in 1884, is an independent, coed college preparatory school educating children from age 4 through high school on a 12-acre campus. The school offers extensive athletics offerings and fields over 30 teams. # # # Press Contacts: Liz Campbell at 718-303-7813, ecampbell@statenislandacademy.org, or Joe Paone at 718-303-7652, jpaone@statenislandacademy.org. |
