Tigers eager to show their stripes at January 4, 2006 – It’s an occasion not to be missed. Pompoms, balloons, banners, streamers and a special guest appearance by Mr. Tiger will all be part of the annual Maroon and Gold Pride Day at Staten Island Academy, Wednesday, January 11, at 2:35PM in the O.J. Buck Gymnasium. The entire Academy community will participate in the Spirit Rally, which will include a dance performance by the Cheer Squad, an introduction of all Middle School and Upper School Basketball players and their coaches, and a hoop shooting contest followed by the Spirit Song and assembly. Games will begin shortly afterwards for the Boys Varsity team vs. Kew Forest at 4:00PM, and the Boys Junior Varsity vs. UNIS at 5:30PM. “This is a very important event as we approach the middle of the academic year,” says Diane J. Hulse, head of school. “Not only does the rally support our talented athletes and coaches but it heralds in the New Year and energizes all of us in a very positive way.” Staten Island Academy, located on a lush 12-acre campus, educates qualified students from age four through high school. The only independent school on Staten Island, the Academy’s mission is to provide a liberal arts education to a socioeconomically diverse population. It is composed of seven buildings, including state-of-the-art computer facilities, and a completely renovated Theater, Library, Art Barn and Alumni Hall building. Outdoors are two swimming pools, athletic fields, and tennis courts.
