Charles Adams Platt Satellite Exhibition at Staten Island Academy

June 4, 2004 - Coast Willows: The Etchings of Young Charles Adams Platt, an exhibition of prints, is currently on display in Crowe Hall at Staten Island Academy, 715 Todt Hill, Staten Island. It will continue through September 2004.

The satellite exhibition is an extension of a collaborative exhibition between the Noble Maritime Collection and the Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences (SIIAS).

It features early etchings of the 19th century architect and landscape designer, Charles Adams Platt (1861-1933) from the Institute’s permanent collection. Platt’s delicate, lyrical prints depict coastal scenes, fishing villages, vessels at sea, harbors, and canals. A New York City native, he produced over 100 works while traveling along the East Coast. His etchings are recognized today as some of the finest American prints of the 19th century.

According to Diane J. Hulse, Staten Island Academy’s Head of School, “The Academy is honored to display Platt’s wonderful prints. We applaud and support the efforts of the Noble Maritime Collection and SIIAS.”

Staten Island Academy, founded in 1884, is an independent, co-ed college preparatory school educating children from Pre-Kindergarten through high school on a 12-acre campus. The Academy is celebrating 120 years of educational excellence in 2004.
