New Alliances

September 2003 - Staten Island Academy is very proud of its status as the only independent school on Staten Island. Independent schools are distinct. They are not directed by the government or a religious organization, which allow independent schools like the Academy the freedom to define its own mission, admit the most qualified students, and develop an outstanding curriculum not bounded by mandated syllabi.

During 2002-2003, the Academy reached out to reconnect with other independent schools by becoming a member of three prominent organizations: The Parents League of New York, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York.

The Parents League of New York (PLNY) is a parent support organization with over 250 independent schools as members. The organization provides an array of services and resources for parents including an advisory service, special programs and workshops, and publications such as the Parents League Guide to New York, Parents League Review and the Toddler Book.

The Academy was recently accepted as a member of the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY). ISAAGNY is a nonprofit organization of admissions directors and heads of schools. It serves its member schools by setting common notification dates, conducting workshops and seminars, setting a nondiscriminatory admissions policy and providing Principles of Good Practice for Admissions. The Academy is ISAAGNY’s only Staten Island member school. The school now adheres to the ISAAGNY February notification dates.

The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is a professional organization for advancement professionals in alumni relations, communications, and development. More than 3,000 independent schools, colleges and universities in the United States and 42 other countries are CASE member institutions. Its mission is to advance and support education by helping members build stronger relations with alumni and donors, raise funds, market to prospective students and foster public support of education. CASE serves as an invaluable resource for members of the Academy's development and communications offices.

Famed South Korean singer Joo Hyun Ock visited students at Staten Island Academy on February 24, 2004 to film a popular South Korean television show called "First Calls of South Korea."
