Staten Island Academy is Chosen as the Pilot Site for Culinart's "Fresh & Healthy" Menu ProgramSeptember 2005 - CulinArt, the northeast’s leader in unique customized on-site dining service programs for t hree decades, has selected Staten Island Academy as the pilot site for its “Fresh & Healthy” menu program. Culinart has been the Academy’s food service management company since 1995. Lower in salt, sugar and fat, the daily menu choices will include at least one vegetarian option, fresh fruit, a variety of lower fat and enriched grain products, and low fat/fat free milk and milk products. CulinArt uses only trans fat free oils when preparing foods and follows the USDA dietary guidelines for “Fresh & Healthy” menu items. “By expanding our school’s menu options, we’re encouraging our students to make a variety of nutritious and tasty meal decisions,” says Taube Import, director of operations at the Academy. Whether students choose from the “Fresh & Healthy” hot entrees, “Quik Pik” salads, or a vegetarian dish, these meals are part of a delicious, healthful addition to the existing menu at Staten Island Academy. While some of the standard favorites will still be available such as hamburgers, deli sandwiches, and pizza, students have already enthusiastically received the pilot program, which is also supported by the physical education and health curriculum. Ongoing adjustments will be made to the overall menu, as student’s preferences become better well known. Staten Island Academy, located on the top of Todt Hill on a lush 12-acre campus, educates qualified students from age four through high school. The only independent school on Staten Island, the Academy’s mission is to provide a liberal arts education to a socioeconomically diverse population. It is composed of seven buildings, including a completely refurbished theater and state-of-the-art computer facilities. Outdoors are two swimming pools, athletic fields, and tennis courts.# # # For further information, please contact Alice Doyle at 718.303.7813 adoyle@statenislandacademy.org. |
