NEWS & EVENTS: SIA IN THE NEWS STORY DETAILS Staten Island Academy Announces Appointment of Director of Development April 11, 2007 (Staten Island, NY) - Staten Island Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Barret Jones of Brooklyn, New York, to director of development, effective May 7, 2007. In this position, Mr. Jones will be responsible for the Academy’s fundraising activities. Mr. Jones is currently director of development at The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine, located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. In this position, he oversees all fundraising initiatives at the Kindergarten-Grade 8 school, as well as alumni relations, special events and publications. He previously served as assistant director of development at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Louise Wise Services, a child welfare and adoption agency. “I am truly excited about bringing my skills to the dynamic administrative team at the Academy,” said Mr. Jones. “The growth of the academic program under Head of School Diane Hulse’s leadership has been remarkable. Every member of the community to whom I have spoken has demonstrated a clear commitment to and passion for this institution.” Mr. Jones holds a B.A. in theater arts and English from Drew University. He belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and Association of Fundraising Professionals. He is a team leader and presenter at the WOW! Institute, which combines contemporary business techniques with fundraising practices to ensure continuous improvement of a donor’s experience. Staten Island Academy, located on a lush 12-acre campus, is a college-preparatory day school that educates students from age 4 through high school. Current enrollment is approximately 400 students, with an average class size of 17. Staten Island’s only independent school, the Academy is composed of seven buildings, including a completely refurbished theater and state-of-the-art computer facilities. Outdoors are two swimming pools, athletic fields and tennis courts.
