An Art Show and Reception will precede the November 17 performance. This will take place in Haugen Hall’s Atrium at 7:30 PM. Other upcoming Academy Arts Department events include the Middle School Winter concert and Art Show at 10 AM on December 15 and the Upper School Holiday Concert and Art Show on December 21 at 7:30 PM.

Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most popular plays in the French language. It was written by Edmond Rostand in 1897 and is based on the life of the real Cyrano de Bergerac, who lived in the mid-1600s and was a soldier, duelist, poet and musician. He also had a very large nose, which, the play suggests, prevented him from expressing his love for his cousin, the beautiful Roxane. Several films have been based on Rostand’s play, including a 1987 interpretation starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah, and a 1990 French-language version starring Gerard Depardieu.

Staten Island Academy, located on a lush 12-acre campus, is a college-preparatory day school with an average class size of 17. The Academy is composed of seven buildings, including a gymnasium and fitness center, theater and state-of-the-art computer facilities. Outdoors are two swimming pools, athletic fields, a playground and tennis courts. For more information about Staten Island Academy and its outstanding programs, visit www.statenislandacademy.org.
