SIA Hosts College Fair April 26, 2004 - Staten Island Academy is hosting this year’s annual college fair for the independent schools of Brooklyn and Staten Island on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 from 2-3:30PM in the OJ Buck Gymnasium. Admissions representatives from over 150 of the nation’s finest colleges and universities will be on hand to meet with students and college counselors from Staten Island Academy, Brooklyn Friends School, Packer Collegiate Institute, Berkeley Carroll School, and Poly Prep Country Day School. College representatives from Duke, Hamilton, Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, Penn State, the University of Chicago, Canada’s McGill University, and Scotland’s University of St. Andrews (to name a few) will share information about their institutions, and answer questions about the admissions process and college program offerings. A complete list of participating colleges and universities is available upon request. The College Fair is an annual event hosted by the participating independent schools of Staten Island and Brooklyn. The Academy is the only independent school on Staten Island. “Colleges are very interested in meeting students from independent schools because they make such strong candidates for admission,” said Michael Acquilano, Director of College Guidance at Staten Island Academy. Acquilano goes on to say, “Independent schools like Staten Island Academy provide a “well rounded”, liberal arts educational program. To colleges, that can translate into admissions applicants who, like the typical Academy student, are articulate, well-read, athletic and committed to excellence.” The college guidance program at Staten Island Academy is designed to help students and their families find their way through the complex and competitive world of college admissions. The Academy’s program offers a very low college advisor to student ratio of 1:8, which means that students receive individualized counseling supported by innovative program offerings such as the Academy’s college summer bus tour, Princeton Review SAT courses, information nights and workshops on topics such as interviewing, financial aid and writing an application essay. |
