Strawberry Fields Arrives in Staten Island April 8, 2004- The New York City premiere of STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER (4 EVER) will take place on Thursday, April 15, 7PM at Staten Island Academy. The premier is open to the public and admission is free. To reserve tickets, call 718-987-8100. STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER (4 EVER), commissioned and produced by The Myriad Theatre Company, was written by two young dramatists, Sam Exley and Dean Elliott, both graduates of Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). LIPA is the brainchild of none other than Sir Paul McCartney. The Myriad Theatre Company is located in Liverpool, England. 4 EVER is an exciting, vibrant and topical play that depicts what happens when children are left to fend for themselves after adults ‘disappear’ from their homes. The production stars a cast of 18 young people aged 11-18 from 11 Liverpool schools. The talented actors were selected from over 200 young people who auditioned for the cast. A list of cast and crew members is included below. In preparation for the workshop production, the cast and writers participated in year-long writing workshops, which included working very closely with young people from the real Strawberry Fields Home for Children in Liverpool. As a result 4 EVER expresses the “real” voice of young people and their concerns about the world. Performance spaces for the production’s US tour have been provided by American schools with a reputation for the performing arts. In addition to Staten Island Academy, the play has been shown at Lake Forest Academy in Chicago, Western Reserve Academy in Cleveland, and in Europe at the Unity Theatre in Liverpool, England. The theatre company will also hold a workshop for Staten Island Academy students on April 16. Diane J. Hulse, Head of Staten Island Academy, said, “We are very honored to have been selected to host the New York premiere of 4 EVER. The Myriad Theatre Company, like Staten Island Academy, is deeply committed to providing innovative performing arts programs for young people. We’re looking forward to their visit.” The Myriad Theatre Company (founded in 1991) provides a quality theatrical experience in the professional theatre for young people between the ages of 11 and 18 from a very wide range of social, educational and economic backgrounds. It is located in Liverpool, England. The company strives to break down social barriers, and open up opportunities to develop personal and team skills through artistic expression. Staten Island Academy has hosted several groups of international visitors in recent months. The production of 4 EVER comes on the heels of a visit from the girls soccer team from the University of Glasgow. A member of Finkle, a popular Korean singing group, visited the college prep school recently as well as for the filming of a Korean television show.
