Every year, The Academy Fund offers parents, faculty, trustees,
alumni, grandparents and other friends the opportunity to transform
the lives of our students. The Academy Fund appeal calls on every
member of our community. It is the cornerstone of Staten Island
Academy’s fundraising efforts.
Staten Island Academy is the only independent school on Staten Island.
Why is the Academy called an independent school? Staten Island
Academy is an independent school because it designs its own curriculum
and program offerings, hires and trains faculty to implement the
curriculum and operates without financial support from the city, state
or federal government. A Board of Trustees governs the school. The
Board works closely with the Head of School and the administrators to
create a program that reflects the school’s mission: Successful
students-achieving their goals in school and in life-are at the heart
of the learning community that is Staten Island Academy. Unlike public
schools, funded by tax dollars, Staten Island Academy relies upon
tuition, income from the endowment, and fundraising to operate the
school.
We ask all members of the school community to consider making a gift
to the Academy Fund. Whether your gift is large or small, it is
vitally important — participation in the Academy Fund, in addition to
supporting the school, also builds the community. High levels of
participation, particularly from parents and alumni, help make the
case for support to other parents, alumni, grandparents and friends,
and to outside funders and those capable of making large gifts. It is
important everyone do their part – whether it means a gift of $50 or
$10,000.
We also ask our parents to join us as Academy Fund volunteers. No
matter how large or small your gift, your participation as an Academy
Fund volunteer offers you opportunities for friendship, commitment and
teamwork, and offers our students a wonderful education.
Because we are a small school, your gift can have a direct impact on
the everyday life of our students.
From its opening day more than 125 years ago, the school has relied
upon the generosity of trustees, parents, alumni and friends to bridge
the gap between tuition income and the cost of educating its students.
Please include Staten Island Academy as one of your top
philanthropic priorities this year as you consider making your gift to
the Academy Fund.
Thank you.
All gifts are tax-deductible. Staten Island Academy is a federally
registered 501(c)3 non-profit institution. The Annual Report is
available to the public online each year; it outlines all school
expenses, incomes, and Fund giving. It’s extensive and incredibly
informative.
