The Last 5 Classesline

Academy students leave our halls and go on, for example, to study Engineering at Cornell, sing and dance on stage at Wagner College, or study English literature at Vassar or Harvard.

The wide range of academic and career interests of our students is astounding. Here are some facts and figures about the last five graduating classes from Staten Island Academy. (Visit our Alumni section, too, to see what our alumni are up to.)

Acceptances

  • 39% of all applications to colleges in the Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “Most Competitive” category resulted in acceptances.
  • 56% of all applications to colleges in the Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “Highly Competitive” category resulted in acceptances.
  • 71% of all applications to colleges in the Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “Very Competitive” category resulted in acceptances.

Matriculations

  • 36% of all graduates from 2005-2009 matriculated at colleges in the top (Most Competitive) category of Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “College Admission Selector.”
  • 53% of all graduates from 2005-2009 matriculated at colleges in the top two (Most Competitive and Highly Competitive) categories of Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “College Admission Selector.”
  • 79% of all graduates from 2005-2009 matriculated at colleges in the top three (Most Competitive, Highly Competitive, Very Competitive) categories of Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges “College Admission Selector.”

Variety

  • 13 Academy graduates are currently completing studies at Ivy League universities, from the Classes of 2006-2009.
  • A member of the Class of 2008 currently attends SUNY Maritime College – Cadet Appointment Program.
  • Two of our graduates are currently studying art and design -- one at the Parson’s School of Design and the other at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
  • One of our graduates is currently playing Division I soccer at Davidson College.
  • 18 students were recruited to play sports in college, in either Division I, II, or III athletics.
  • In the Class of 2009 alone, students took a total of 84 AP classes.
