COLLEGE

Alumni Quotesline

Did the Academy prepare you well for college?

These are questions we asked some of our alumni. Read what they had to say:

"Having participated in numerous extracurricular activities at the Academy, I was able to successfully prioritize my schedule and handle my workload throughout my first year at Dartmouth. Additionally, I was not afraid to approach professors, attend of office hours, and ask questions in class, which I attribute to the close relationships I had with the faculty at the Academy." - Max, Class of 2008

"Staten Island Academy provides a uniquely intimate atmosphere fostering invaluable interaction between teachers and students, which has served me well in college, grad school, and throughout my career.  Becuase my thoughts and contributions were always valued in the classroom at the Academy, as a child and teenager, I have never been intimidated by superiors and have always felt completely confident in my contributions, whether in classes or work meetings. I have carried with me a confidence in my intellectual abilities from the Academy to college at Vassar, grad school at NYU, and throughout my career." - Alexis, Class of 2001

"The student/teacher ratio couldn't be beat. It was great to be able to have that ability to walk into any teacher's office and get the advice, tutoring, or guidance that we needed when we needed it. The AP program, too, was a huge help come freshman year at college. Many high schools have AP programs, but combined with the availability of teachers, the program at the Academy is all the more worth while. It put me leagues ahead when I got to college." - Erika, Class of 1996

"The Academy let me really become who I am today. I came to the school in Middle School shy, quiet, and scared to speak up, and I left after seven years at the Academy as a confident man. I took every lesson I ever learned in those halls with me to Harvard, and they echo in my mind today in business meetings and work settings. I will always remember that my Academy teachers taught me how to tie a tie, how to box step, and how to stand up for the things you believe in. The Academy will always be my home." - Julio, Class of 1996
