FACULTY BIOS: GRANTS

Richard E. Diamond Faculty Enrichment Grants

Observing giant tortoises in the Galapagos Islands, conversing with teachers in Paris, tasting authentic Cajun cooking in New Orleans and creating a history curriculum based on original manuscripts on the civil war and world history are examples of the exciting endeavors our faculty have undertaken during their summer travels.

These activities were funded by the enrichment grant program that was established in memory of Richard E. Diamond, a 1949 graduate of the Academy, by the Diamond family. Each fall faculty members share their experiences with the Academy community during a symposium hosted in the Haugen Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

We are proud to announce the winners of the 2008 Richard E. Diamond Faculty Enrichment Grants:

  • English teacher Don Knies, traveled to London to trace the journey of Pip, the protagonist of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations.
  • Art teacher Kristi Pfister, also travel to Britain, where she studied mosaics and mosaic making in the lowlands in the southeastern portion of the country.
  • History teacher Ann Greenfield, remained closer to home and studied Revolutionary War-era Native American history in upstate New York.

The 2008 Diamond Grant recipients presented their experiences to the community on Monday, November 10 at 4:00 PM.
