Poetry Slam’s a Homerun!

On Thursday, February 2, the monthly Poetry Slam was held in the Haugen Hall atrium.  A spirited crowd gathered for the reading of published poems, original works, a dramatic rendition of a children’s classic — and hot chocolate, of course.

Organized by Dr. Braun and members of Grade 12, the Poetry Slam has become a popular student activity that traditionally takes place during the 10:30 break period on the third Thursday of each month.  Students and faculty in the Upper School are welcome to step in front of the gathered audeince and share the gift of poetry and other expressive forms of literature.

The casual atmosphere of the Poetry Slam makes the activity an entertaining and enriching experience.  Wordsworth and Shakespeare are held in equal regard with the writers and poets from the Upper School, as the Staten Island Academy community celebrates and learns to love the beauty of verse.
