Technology![]()
We are committed to providing our students with an abundance of technological resources to complete classwork, homework assignments, and school projects. Cutting-edge technology and tools on campus help students stay connected to one another and keep pace with the world. On Campus: The Academy campus is a cutting-edge environment with computer labs, interactive SMART Boards, laptops, campus-wide Wi-Fi and the latest software and applications. The Francis H. Powers Science and Technology Center is home to the school’s largest computer lab, and the school’s laptop stations or laptop “carts” are a roving resource for students, who may check-out a laptop for use on campus. In the Classroom: Students learn to use technology to collaborate with each other and with their teachers, and with students in other schools and countries. Students in Pre-K through Grade 4 have computers and computer classes in their classrooms and in the Lower School Computer Lab. Students in Grades 5-12 may take a number of elective courses in: multimedia authoring, video, animation, 2D and 3D gaming, Web design, digital art, robotics, and Java programming in APCS. These courses are designed to foster creativity, imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The Academy has over 200 computers in use throughout the school. One-hundred percent of classrooms and campus spaces have online access, and a large number of classrooms is equipped with SMART Board interactive white boards. Behind-the-Scenes: Our technology department supports teachers, academic departments, and administrators by finding innovative ways of using new and existing technologies to enhance teaching and learning from Pre-K through Grade 12. Off-Campus: The Academy’s new website was designed to take best advantage of the latest Web 2.0 social media tools, including Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In addition, the school’s extranet, ROAR!, is an online hub for “Ready Online Access to Resources” for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff. Every Academy student, faculty member, and administrator also has a ROAR! email and network account
